Dr. Bassam Abdelmalek earned his Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) in 1998. After completing his studies, he served as a military veterinarian for one year before transitioning into a prominent role in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2006, he founded his own mixed animal clinic. Upon moving to Edmonton with his family, Dr. Bassam pursued his North American veterinary certification, which he successfully earned in 2016, allowing him to practice as a licensed veterinarian in North America.
Since 2015, Dr. Bassam has been practicing veterinary medicine in the Edmonton area. He began his career in a single-veterinarian clinic before moving to a busy multi-veterinarian practice in 2017. He is now a valued member of the Chapelle Veterinary Clinic team, with special interests in dermatology, internal medicine, senior pet care, feline medicine, small animal surgery, and dentistry.
Dr. Bassam is also a dedicated volunteer, contributing his expertise to organizations such as the Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force, VetEmerg Emergency Hospital, the Edmonton Humane Society, and Delaney Veterinary Hospital. He completed his internship at Windermere Veterinary Hospital and volunteered at Edmonton’s Heritage Festival from 2012 to 2019.
In addition to his professional work, Dr. Bassam is the Vice President of the Coptic Heritage Society of Alberta, where he has been actively helping newcomers since 2012. He is also an active member of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Feline Veterinary Medical Association, Edmonton Association of Small Animal Veterinarians, and the Canadian Academy of Veterinary Dermatology.
Outside of his career and community work, Dr. Bassam enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their two dogs, Mila and Charlie. His hobbies include reading, writing for his blog, mentoring aspiring veterinarians, and gardening during the summer months.
